As the primary focus of our camps is children with serious health and life challenges, we have the support of a professional medical team on site 24 hours a day for the duration of the camp. So as to ensure that the medical regimes of the campers are adhered to while at camp. The campers are checked at the departure point (hospital or NPO) by a medical professional for any potential medical problems before they get on to the bus and are checked again by the medical team at camp. The medical team will also make sure that all medications are safely collected and stored away under lock and key.
Completed medical forms are filed and medication is handed out to campers at their scheduled times by the medical team. We hold a medical training workshop before each camp for all new medical staff attending camp to familiarise themselves with our SPP Medical Manual criteria and although they are qualified medical professionals, they still need to be ‘camp-trained’ medics to be able to attend to the needs of our campers out of a formal medical environment.
