Medical Support

Medical Care & Safety at Camp Footprints

The heart of every camp lies in a promise: that every child will be safe, supported, and cared for from the moment they arrive to the moment they return home. Because our camps serve children facing serious health and life challenges and medical care, it’s a cornerstone of the experience.

Our professional medical team is on-site 24 hours a day for the duration of camp.   Every child’s well-being is at the heart of our camps. Before departure, children with cancer receive a hospital assessment to ensure they are medically ready to share in the camp activities, while those living with HIV or other chronic conditions are supported through their ongoing care plans. This careful preparation means that when the buses have safely rolled in, every child is ready to laugh, play, and create lasting memories.  Upon arrival at camp, our dedicated medical team conducts a second check to ensure every child needs to focus only on play, adventure and discovery, free from the weight of their illnesses.

Medical Training Workshops

Before each camp, JFF facilitates comprehensive medical training workshops for all incoming medical staff. While these professionals are fully qualified, camp medicine requires a unique approach — one that blends clinical expertise with emotional sensitivity and adaptability and requires an understanding of how to support campers outside of a formal medical setting; in a space designed for fun and growth.

These workshops prepare staff to:

  • Ensure the health and safety of campers in a dynamic, interactive environment
  • Oversee medical camper check-in upon arrival at camp
  • Collect all medications and safely store them under lock and key
  • Oversee medication management at their scheduled times
  • Adapt their medical expertise to a setting designed for fun and exploration, not hospitals
  • Collaborate closely with camp crew to deliver seamless, compassionate support
