Project Description

Camp 14

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa – KwaZulu Natal | The Mercury Hibberdene Children’s Holiday Home
July 2011
35 campers from hospitals in Durban and Pietermaritzburg enjoyed 5 days of fun in the sun, feet in the ocean and flying high in the sky with our friends from The Port Shepstone Rotary Club. For 5 days, the campers were whisked away from the routines and sounds experienced in hospital to enjoy in their place the sounds of waves crashing against rocks, seagulls cawing and the wind rustling between the trees.

August 2011
25 campers got to experience some of their dreams and wishes when they spent the weekend away with Just Footprints, Reach For A Dream Foundation and their volunteers for fun at a Camp Sunshine Camp. Designed to take their minds away from whatever serious health challenges they may have, the camp gives the children an opportunity to play, have fun and just be kids.

October 2011
75 young campers joined us for an exciting 5 days of fun and friendly Halloween games. They eagerly joined in to trick or treat one another as well as the staff and volunteers and sat beside the fire in the boma, sang camp songs and performed concerts. Just for these five days, their worries about their illnesses were left behind. They were able to fantasise and be joyful kids once again.

Camp 18

The Gateway School | Phiri Camp Kwalata Game Reserve in Dinokeng Big 5 Game Reserve Gauteng
November 2011
40 campers joined us as some of the first people to experience an amazing adventure in the recently-proclaimed Dinokeng Game Reserve. During the fun-filled weekend, the campers were encouraged to enjoy their ‘wild’ environment, and to participate in outdoor adventures that they would not normally have a chance to experience because of their challenging circumstances.

Camp 19

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa – Western Cape | Camp Faraway Noordhoek
December 2011
35 campers joined in for a 5 day long camp of fun with our friends from The Constantia Rotary Club. Set in a beautiful location with views of mountains and the sea, they were given the opportunity to leave their fears, concerns about their illnesses and normal environment behind and to have a magical time. They were given many reasons to smile and laugh and had plenty of opportunities to make friends. A wonderful respite from their serious health challenges.
